Enchanted Rock State Natural Area: Just North of Fredericksburg, you?ll find one of the largest natural rock formations in the United States. Hike the 4-mile trail that encompasses several rock formations, bird watch, rock climb, and camp overnight to witness the majesty of Enchanted Rock at sunrise.
Lost Maples State Natural Area: You don?t have to travel up the East Coast to witness changing fall foliage. Lost Maples encompasses over 2,000 acres on the Sabinal River and features the most vivid fall leaf coloration in the state of Texas. This Hill Country treasure draws over 200,000 annual visitors. The recreational opportunities, such as hiking, fishing, paddle sports, and mountain climbing, make it a perfect destination year round.
Longhorn Caverns State Park: These unique Hill Country caverns have housed Comanche Indians, Confederate soldiers, and perhaps even an outlaw or two over the years. The Cavern is the main attraction, but there are plenty of trails to hike as well as tours and other educational programs. There is a gift shop, picnic area, deli, and snack counter on the premises.
Guadalupe River State Park: Located in Spring Branch, Texas, this park has 4 miles of river frontage and is situated in the middle of a beautiful 9-mile stretch of the Guadalupe River. Popular activities include fishing, canoeing, swimming, tubing, hiking, and camping. The park recently opened an equestrian trail over 5 miles long. This new trail is also open to mountain biking.
Inks Lake State Park: Located in Burnet, Texas, Inks Lake State Park is a 1,200-acre span of wildflowers, cedar and oak trees, and pink granite outcroppings. It borders the lake for which it is named and offers recreational activities such as swimming, boating, canoeing, water skiing, sailing, and fishing. It?s a wonderful place to sit and watch the wildlife, which include deer, quail, turkey, and songbirds.
