Health and Fitness: Understanding Plastic Surgery

A preliminary consultation regarding a cosmetic surgery involves meeting with a cosmetic surgeon along with his staff and medical assistants. Factors such as previous surgeries, health background plus recently taken medications, plus the person's general physical and emotional condition are greatly taken into account by the assigned doctor. These issues require time to be discussed completely as an important part of surgery preparations. Additional factors that will need attention before any cosmetic surgeries are definitely the time period of the recovery, probable complications, how to handle these risks, plus the limitations attributed to one's nose surgical procedure, these things must be discussed as a significant section of surgical procedure plans.

Risks can vary based on the process and also the individual involve, whether it is pain related conditions or maybe infections. Ask for the photos of the patients, which includes their looks before the surgery and also the after photos. You may also want to learn about the anesthesia to be used and the probable risks it might cause you.

The desired change from a surgery procedure will be relying on the final results of the operation and the recommendation therapy processes. Perhaps the relatively simple surgeries are hoped by surgery patients to be carried out nicely and without imperfections if possible. A small margin of error can simply ruin self-satisfaction.

If a cosmetic is considered, it is essential to choose a doctor whom patients can entirely rely on, and whose job they could admire with highest recommendations. A doctor with many pleased clients may benefit a lot from his good reputation through having an enjoyable reputation as an effective cosmetic surgeon.

For individuals thinking about cosmetic surgery, safety is a big issue. It's the patient's job to be fully informed consumer. Consequently, ask needed inquiries to receive the best outcomes such as the state where the doctor is usually licensed to do cosmetic surgery, his certifications from the board of plastic surgery, together with his years of experience as a cosmetic surgeon, if he has monitoring devices or even life-saving equipment, how and who administers anesthesia, and the expected recovery from the process.

Think about a surgical procedure that will be completed in a surgeon's office. You will find differences between a hospital-based procedure and those done within an office. The surgeon's office may be private, convenient but the setting may not be safe as well. Assuming that the physician has his right qualifications or amenities for safe operation may give you disappointments. Examining his affiliation and association with organizations certified to give credentials can give assurance and also as an additional information to the surgeon or perhaps an ambulatory center's certifications.

Apple's Cards app for iPhone and iPad update lets you swap photos

Apple has released an updated to Cards, a card-creation app for iPhone and iPad. Now you can easily swap photos in templates that contain multiple photos. A few bugs have also been fixed.

To swap photos, you simply drag one of the photos to a different available location in the template and Cards will automatically swap the two photos. The update also includes a fix to the issue that caused previously mailed cards to display as drafts in Card History. And if you were experiencing random crashes while using Cards, that has also, supposedly, been fixed.

Cards is an iPhone and iPad app that let's you create letterpress cards and then order physical versions to be shipped to whoever you want. Each card is crafted from 100 percent cotton paper and imprinted with an elegant debossed design. You can select up to 12 recipients for each card. Cards shipped in the U.S. are $2.99 each and cards shipped to anywhere else in the world are $4.99 each. Unfortunately, Apple does not offer bulk pricing to those who may be interested in sending a card to, say, 50 or more recipients.

How many of you have actually ever ordered cards with Apple's Cards app? Are you happy with the app and the quality of the cards that Apple prints? If you don't use Cards, is there another app, like Sincerely Ink [Free - Download Now], that you prefer? I've used Cards a few times and have always been satisfied with the results, but I would love to explore other options.

Nanotube chip breakthrough means smaller, faster computers

14 hrs.

The ability to fashion computer chips out of carbon nanotubes will allow the trend of ever smaller, faster and more powerful chips to keep apace for several more decades, according to researchers.

The breakthrough reported Sunday by scientists at IBM Research comes as the routine shrinkage of computer chips every 12 to 18 months known as Moore?s Law was hitting a physical limit.?

Traditionally, transistors ? the switches on a chip that carry digital information ? are made of silicon. Today?s silicon transistors are approaching the atomic scale ? a physical limit ? as their speed and performance gains are stalling due to the nature of the material.

?In recent years, while chip makers have continued to double the number of transistors on chips, their performance, measured as ?clock speed,? has largely stalled,? the New York Times reported.

The researchers at IBM embedded more than 10,000 carbon nanotube transistors on a silicon chip. Electrons in carbon transistors can move easier than in silicon-based devices. The tubes are also ideally shaped for transistors at the nanoscale, the company explained in a news release.?

?These qualities are among the reasons to replace the traditional silicon transistor with carbon ? and coupled with new chip design architectures ? will allow computing innovation on a miniature scale for the future,? the news release reads.

Hurdles going forward include getting ultra-pure carbon and perfecting the manufacturing process. If progress continues apace, this should come about sometime after the end of the decade, IBM said.

The breakthrough was described Sunday in the journal Nature Nanotechnology.

Iran sees conspiracy in box office success of Ben Affleck's 'Argo' (+video)

Based on true events surrounding the 1979 takeover of the US Embassy in Tehran, 'Argo' opened this weekend at No. 2 and rose to the top spot on Monday. Iranians are less enthused.

American moviegoers flocked to theaters this weekend to see Ben Affleck's long-anticipated thriller Argo, which has been generating headlines since it was first screened at the Toronto Film Festival last month.?

Based on a true story about how the CIA smuggled six American diplomats out of Iran after the 1979 takeover of the US Embassy, the film opened on Oct. 12 and came in at No. 2 in box office sales over the weekend, after "Taken 2" (an action film starring Liam Neeson). By Oct. 15, Argo held the top spot.?

But inside?Iran, where the decision by a group of Iranian students to storm the US Embassy and hold Americans hostage for 444 days is still controversial and vibrantly debated, the press has paid Argo scant attention. The few comments the film has received are generally negative ? Iran's state-run IRNA news agency called Argo "Hollywood?s latest failed attempt to confront the Islamic Revolution" ? and?replete with complaints that the movie portrays all Iranians as stereotypically aggressive and unrefined and fails to give viewers enough historical context.?(Pirated copies of American films typically become available in Iran a few months before the films open in the US, and are easily accessed by the public.)

?Argo makes the people of Iran look like they have no self-determination, and indisputably support violence,? writes Meysam Karimi in a lengthy review?for the popular Iran-based film magazine website, Moviemag.???For me, as an Iranian ? this makes [the storyline behind] Argo much less believable.?

Iran?s semi-official Fars News Agency?labels Argo ?anti-Iranian" and painted the film as a flop. Citing unidentified "news agencies," it asserted that Argo only?managed to reach second place in the US and Canada because the filmmakers artificially boosted sales by purchasing tickets ?en masse? and giving them away for free to random people. ?

Argo??was unable to become a box office hit in spite of considerable advertisement," Fars wrote.??The filmmakers tried very hard and used a variety of methods to increase ticket sales, but they were unsuccessful. ? Even though ?Taken 2? was in its second week, Argo still couldn?t beat it to first place in the box office ? due to a lack of interest among its own [North American] audience.?

Moviemag, the privately owned online film magazine, is more sober in its assessment of the film, acknowledging Ben Affleck?s strong directorial skill and the film?s attention-grabbing story line and?giving the film a four out of five star rating.

"If I were to set aside issues [with how Iran is portrayed], I must admit that Argo is one of this year?s best movies, and expect it to be awarded an Oscar for Best Director and Best Supporting Actor for Alan Arkin?s role," he writes.?

?Without a doubt, a non-Iranian viewer will highly enjoy seeing Argo because the story is strong and keeps the viewer?s attention through to the end,? he adds. ?But for an Iranian who counts this subject as part of our country?s history, the view may be a bit different.?

Almost all coverage of Argo also noted that the film?s Toronto Film Festival debut, Sept. 7, is the same day Canada closed its embassy this year in Tehran and announced the expulsion of Iran?s diplomats from Ottawa. ? ?

?Perhaps it was a coincidence,? writes Mr. Karimi for Moviemag. ?But for [the embassy closure] to take place during the Toronto Film Festival, right when this film was being screened, somewhat undermines the theory that this happened by accident.?

Obamacare quietly reduces women's health coverage, expands ...

Pres?i?dent Obama him?self says the gov?ern?ment has no busi?ness being involved in women?s health and what we do with our bod?ies ought to be our choice, but now con?ve?niently timed ?guide?lines? from doc?tors, in part?ner?ship with the gov?ern?ment run Depart?ment of Health and Human Ser?vices (HHS) has issued guide?lines that expand cov?er?age for sex?ual behav?ior while reduc?ing real women?s health care cov?er?age, prov?ing where the real ?warn on women? lies.

Under Oba?macare reg?u?la?tions women now only have a PAP smear cov?ered every three years. In case you aren?t a woman, which the pres?i?dent isn?t, by the way, PAP smears are gen?er?ally?were gen?er?ally?part of an annual well-woman exam. How?ever, after Oba?macare passed, new cer?vi?cal can?cer screen?ing guide?lines were released and sud?denly because of that, after years of annual cov?er?age, women are now report?ing going for a PAP smear and hav?ing it denied as part of their cov?ered exam. As one arti?cle?notes:

[T]he Amer?i?can Col?lege of Obste?tri?cians and Gyne?col?o?gists (ACOG) teamed with the Amer?i?can Can?cer Asso?ci?a?tion and the U.S. Pre?ven?tive Ser?vices Task Force to issue new guide?lines which pushed back the age at which young women should begin to have inter?nal pelvic exams and sug?gested that most women only need pap smears once every three?years.

A PAP smear, which tests for abnor?mal (often pre-cancerous) cells, HPV, and cer?vi?cal can?cer, involves a quick scrape of the cervix to test cells. It takes all of 5 sec?onds and often saves women?s lives when some?thing abnor?mal is detected. ?

Pres?i?dent Obama clearly thinks PAP smears are impor?tant, or at least he keeps say?ing so when he insists that Planned Par?ent?hood needs its $487 mil?lion a year from the gov?ern?ment. He keeps say?ing it?s for ?mam?mo?grams and cer?vi?cal can?cer screen?ings.? Well, we know he keeps lying about the mam?mo?grams when even the national media, a fed?eral agency, and Planned Par?ent?hood itself say it doesn?t do mam?mo?grams, but he keeps say?ing it. ?So there are no mam?mo?grams, but cer?tainly we need to give Planned Par?ent?hood money for cer?vi?cal can?cer screen?ings? Except the guide?lines just changed this year, partly in part?ner?ship with, the U.S. Pre?ven?tive Ser?vices Task Force, and now what most women got annu?ally they now get every 3 to 5 years. ?Coin?ci?den?tally, this task force is a part of the HHS, the very same folks who worked on the birth con?trol man?date and health care plan. Sur?prise.

So what does Planned Par?ent?hood need all that money for if they don?t do mam?mo?grams and cer?vi?cal can?cer screen?ings and/or HPV tests are now only cov?ered every 3???5 years? Shouldn?t we be reduc?ing our fund?ing even because the orga?ni?za?tion is pro?vid?ing less women?s health care services

Well, you can rest assured, all annual sex?ual ser?vices aren?t gone. For exam?ple, annual coun?sel?ing for sex?u?ally trans?mit?ted dis?eases and HIV screen?ing and coun?sel?ing are cov?ered free under Obamacare.

In what?s become a hall?mark of the president?s phi?los?o?phy, real women?s health care has been shunned in favor of sex?ual health care. So con?cerned is our admin?is?tra?tion about illicit activ?i?ties that the real causal?i?ties are the mil?lions of women who need actual women?s health care not just to pre?vent preg?nancy (which is not a dis?ease), not to kill their baby, not to get their STD treated. HIV, tragic as it is, is not a dis?ease all women need to be screened for annu?ally to feel safe. Cer?vi?cal can?cer is a whole dif?fer?ent story. Any?one who has had can?cer will tell you that some?times cells increase rapidly. One has to won?der where the real war on women exists.

It?s clear the real rea?son the pres?i?dent thinks Planned Par?ent?hood needs all that money is for its man?dated con?tra?cep?tive care because noth?ing of sub?stance has been added to exams but a whole lot has been taken away. A well-woman exam now involves a basic health his?tory, height and weight, a breast exam (not a mam?mo?gram but a basic breast exam any?one can do) and once, every 3???5 years, a PAP smear/HPV test. This infor?ma?tion is straight from the gov?ern?ment health care web?site.

Still Mr. Obama is insis?tent that Planned Par?ent?hood is the only place that can do such things for?women.

How?ever, a basic well-woman exam doesn?t even have to be con?ducted by a gyne?col?o?gist. When I lived in rural Texas I got my well-woman exams by a nurse prac?ti?tioner at a med?ical clinic that was part of a Catholic health sys?tem. ?It was ten min?utes from my home; the near?est Planned Par?ent?hood was almost an hour away. I?m really hav?ing trou?ble buy?ing that this multi-million dol?lar, government-funded, mega-abortion provider does any?thing unique besides kill babies. This is far too unbe?liev?able to be real?ity. Except it?is.

None of this should really be ?a sur?prise with the president?s per?sis?tent per?ver?sion of Amer?ica. Just last week the nation was abuzz with the hor?rific gall of the Obama cam?paign to liken vot?ing to los?ing one?s vir?gin?ity. Casual sex?ual atti?tudes are not uncom?mon from the White House but grow no less tol?er?a?ble as time goes?on.

When peo?ple see some?one look?ing at them in an inap?pro?pri?ate sex?ual way, they often remark they feel ?slimed.? That?s sort of how I feel about the Obama admin?is?tra?tion right now. Every?thing seems to be sex, birth con?trol, sex, birth con?trol. Abor?tion. Abor?tion. Abor?tion. Cer?tainly a leader of the free world must have more than a one track mind. Instead, he sounds like a Planned Par?ent?hood pup?pet. Cecile Richards, the organization?s pres?i?dent, pulls on his mouth and he strength?ens her? purse strings.

And they all lived per?versely ever?after.

Except the mil?lions of babies killed.

Storm in spotlight in campaign's final full week

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) ? The presidential race's final full week was devolving into a scheduling nightmare as President Barack Obama and Republican Mitt Romney grappled with how to push on with campaigning while a massive storm churned toward the East Coast.

Parts of four competitive states were in the path of Hurricane Sandy: Virginia, North Carolina, Ohio and New Hampshire.

Obama, seeking to project presidential leadership, scraped plans to hold three events in three states Monday with former President Bill Clinton. Instead, Obama was to attend only a morning rally in Florida before returning to Washington to oversee the government's emergency response.

"I'm not going to be able to campaign quite as much over the next couple of days," Obama told volunteers in Florida Sunday night.

Romney canceled a trio of Virginia events Sunday, but was scheduled to visit Ohio, Iowa and Wisconsin on Monday. His campaign also canceled events in New Hampshire Tuesday and advisers predicted more scheduling changes were on the way.

"I know that right now some people in the country are a little nervous about a storm about to hit the coast, and our thoughts and prayers are with people who will find themselves in harm's way," Romney told supporters in Ohio on Sunday.

With just over a week until Election Day, neither campaign could afford to fully shut down its political activity in a race that remains tight. Polls suggest Obama has an advantage in reaching the required 270 Electoral College votes. But Romney's campaign is projecting momentum and considering trying to expand the playing field beyond the nine states that have garnered the bulk of the candidates' attention.

A senior Republican official, speaking on the condition of anonymity to disclose private deliberations, said Romney's team was discussing sending the GOP nominee, his running mate Paul Ryan or both to traditionally left-leaning Minnesota during the campaign's final week.

Nearly all of Obama and Romney's attention for most of the race has focused on Ohio, Virginia, Florida, Iowa, Wisconsin, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Nevada and Colorado.

Both candidates had planned to blitz through nearly all of those states in the campaign's final days.

For Obama, the storm provided an opportunity to show command in a crisis. He was briefed Sunday on the government's response at the headquarters of the Federal Emergency Management Agency and spoke by phone to affected governors and mayors.

"Anything they need, we will be there," Obama said. "And we are going to cut through red tape. We are not going to get bogged down with a lot of rules. We want to make sure that we are anticipating and leaning forward."

Obama has declared emergencies in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, authorizing federal aid to supplement state and local response efforts.

During the GOP primaries, Romney suggested the responsibility of responding to natural disasters should be stripped from FEMA and delegated to the states or private businesses.

"Every time you have an occasion to take something from the federal government and send it back to the states, that's the right direction. And if you can go even further, and send it back to the private sector, that's even better," Romney said during a Republican debate broadcast on CNN.

Earlier this year his running mate Ryan, the chairman of the House budget committee, tried to eliminate $10 billion a year in federal disaster aid. Under Ryan's failed proposal, when emergencies arise, Congress would pay for the disaster costs by cutting the federal budget elsewhere.

The president's campaign said it was using its presence on social media to urge supporters to donate to the Red Cross for storm relief efforts. And the campaign said it would stop sending fundraising emails on Monday to people living in areas in the storm's path.

Romney staffers across Virginia plan to collect supplies to deliver to local storm-relief centers after the hurricane hits. And one of Romney's campaign buses was to be used for relief efforts throughout the East Coast, the Republican National Committee said.

The storm was hitting as millions of Americans were already voting. Early voting has been a particular focus for Obama's campaign, which is banking on its massive get-out-the-vote operation to build up advantages ahead of Election Day.

Obama advisers said they didn't expect earlier voting to be significantly affected in any of the competitive states in the storm's path.

A small percentage of voters cast their ballots early in New Hampshire and Virginia. Obama's campaign was encouraging voters in Virginia, however, to take advantage of the state's decision to ease early voting restrictions because of the storm.

But early voting is robust in Ohio and North Carolina. Obama advisers said they were confident they had built up solid totals in the states before the storm that would serve as firewalls if the storm does keep other supporters from casting their votes.

MARRIAGE COUNSELING WITH ONE SPOUSE ? Creating Healthy ...

You want marriage counseling, but your spouse refuses to take part. Many times it doesn?t mean he/she doesn?t care about your relationship. It may mean your spouse

  • doesn?t think counseling will work
  • has had bad experiences in the past with counseling
  • is uncomfortable or afraid to go for counseling.

Don?t despair! Internationally renowned marriage therapist Michele Weiner-Davis assures ?You can affect relationship change single-handedly.?

Marriage counseling with one person not only can work, but also often is more effective than having both spouses present. A counselor trained in helping relationships heal knows how to ask questions to bring out both his and her sides of the story and teach effective tools the spouse attending counseling can successfully use to mend hurting relationships.

So seek out a counselor trained to work successfully to help your relationship with one or both spouses present. Invite your spouse to attend counseling with you. If he/she says ?no,? stop yourself from forcing the issue and accept the answer gracefully. This alone can move your relationship in the right direction.

Travel & Leisure: Packing for a Ski Holiday - Top Tips

By
Danielle Hodges

Anybody who is new to skiing or snowboarding may feel a mix of excitement and trepidation at the prospect of their first holiday in a ski resort such as Chamonix or Les Gets. Apart from choosing the right catered chalets they will also have to think about the gear that they should take. This overview of winter sports clothing and accessories should come in particularly handy.
Equipment to Rent and Buy
After deciding upon which of the luxurious catered chalets to stay at, you may be tempted to purchase a raft of brand new clothes and accessories online. However, unless you see any special offers then it may be best to wait until you arrive before making a purchase. You'll discover that there are a number of shops that sell second hand and end of season stock for reasonable prices in most of the major resorts. There is also the option of hiring the equipment that you will be using. This is an excellent way of saving money for anybody who takes skiing holidays fairly infrequently.
The Importance of Layers
The wonderful catered chalets that you are staying in will no doubt be warm and cosy, however, after setting first foot on to the snowy slopes it is fairly likely that you'll begin to feel the cold. You might well encounter temperatures of below 20 degrees farenheit and winds that cut through the toughest clothing. It's for this reason that you should wear enough layers that you can be sure of staying relatively warm. It's advisable to wear inner wicking layers that pull sweat away from the body and allow a fair degree of breathability.
The Outer Layer
Although your trusty winter coat may have kept the weather at bay during long, cold days in England, it will probably not do the job on the pistes. You should ideally look for a ski jacket that features special insulating materials and enough pockets for the storage of maps, wallets and goggles. It is also worth buying or renting a couple of pairs of salopets. They are available from most ski-wear retailers and are generally fairly affordable.
Protection for Your Hands and Feet
One of the main complaints that people make when on skiing holidays is that their hands and feet are freezing cold. On particularly chilly days you might even struggle to keep a grip of your ski poles and feel the tips of your toes. If you're to resist the temptation of returning to your snug catered chalets it will be necessary to purchase some good quality ski socks and gloves. You may also look to invest in a pair of shoes that are purpose made for alpine conditions.

Suicide bomber kills 8, injures 100 in Nigerian church

KADUNA (Reuters) - A suicide bomber drove a jeep packed with explosives into a Catholic church in northern Nigeria on Sunday, killing at least eight people, injuring more than 100 and triggering reprisal attacks that killed at least two more, officials said.

The bomber drove right into the packed St Rita's church in the Malali area of Kaduna, a volatile ethnically and religiously mixed city, in the morning, witnesses said.

A spokesman for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Yushua Shuaib said eight people had been confirmed killed and more than 100 injured.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility but Islamist sect Boko Haram has claimed similar attacks in the past and has attacked several churches with bombs and guns as it intensified its campaign against Christians in the past year.

"The heavy explosion also damaged so many buildings around the area," said survivor Linus Lighthouse.

A wall of the church was blasted open and scorched black, with debris lying around. Police cordoned the area off.

Church attacks often target Nigeria's middle belt, where its largely Christian south and mostly Muslim north meet and where sectarian tensions run high. Kaduna's mixed population lies along that faultline.

BODIES

Shortly after the blast, angry Christian youths took to the streets armed with sticks and knives. A Reuters reporter saw two bodies at the roadside lying in pools of blood.

"We killed them and we'll do more," shouted a youth, with blood on his shirt, before police chased him and others away. Police set up roadblocks and patrols across the town in an effort to prevent the violence spreading.

At least 2,800 people have died in fighting since Boko Haram's insurrection began in 2009, according to Human Rights Watch. Most were Muslims in the northeast of the country, where the sect usually attacks politicians and security forces.

The sect says it is fighting to create an Islamic state in Nigeria, whose 160 million people are split roughly evenly between Christians and Muslims.

Another witness to the bombing, Daniel Kazah, a member of the Catholic cadets at the church, said he had seen three bodies on the bloodied church floor in the aftermath.

In previous such attacks, bombers have usually failed to enter church buildings and detonated their explosives at entrances or in car parks.

A spokesman for St Gerard's Catholic hospital, Sunday John, said the hospital was treating 14 injured. Another hospital, Garkura, had at least 84 victims, a NEMA official said.

Many residents of Kaduna rushed indoors, fearing an upsurge in the sectarian killing that has periodically blighted the city. A bomb attack in a church in Kaduna state in June triggered a week of tit-for-tat violence that killed at least 90 people.

UN says 22,000 displaced in latest Myanmar unrest

SITTWE, Myanmar (AP) ? Victims of Myanmar's latest explosion of Muslim-Buddhist violence fled to already packed displacement camps along the country's western coast, with a top U.N. official saying the unrest has forced more than 22,000 people from their homes.

State television reported the casualty toll has risen to 84 dead and 129 injured over the past week in nine townships in Rakhine state. The figures have not been broken down by ethnic group, but New York-based Human Rights Watch has said Rohingya Muslims bore the brunt of the unrest and the true death toll may be far higher.

On Sunday, wooden boats carrying some refugees arrived outside the state capital, Sittwe. The people trudged to the Thechaung camp, already home to thousands of Rohingya who took refuge there after a previous wave of violence in June.

"I fled my hometown, Pauktaw, on Friday because there is no security at all," said 42-year-old fisherman Maung Myint, who arrived on a boat carrying 40 other people, including his wife and six children. "My house was burned to ashes and I have no money left."

Another Muslim refugee said she fled her village, Kyaukphyu, on Thursday after attackers set her home on fire.

"We don't feel safe," said 40-year-old Zainabi, a fish seller who left with her two sons, aged 12 and 14. "I wish the violence would stop so we can live peacefully."

Human Rights Watch released dramatic satellite imagery of Kyaukphyu on Saturday showing a vast, predominantly Rohingya swath of the village in ashes. The destruction included more than 800 buildings and floating barges.

There were no reports of new violence Sunday. It was unclear what sparked the latest clashes, but ill will between Muslims and Buddhists in Rakhine state goes back decades and has its roots in a dispute over the Rohingya's origins. Although many Rohingya have lived in Myanmar for generations, they are seen as foreign intruders who came from Bangladesh to steal scarce land.

Today, the Rohingya also face official discrimination, a policy encouraged by Myanmar's previous military regimes to enlist popular support among other groups. A 1984 law formally excluded them as one of the country's 135 ethnicities, meaning most are denied basic civil rights and are deprived of citizenship.

Neighboring Bangladesh, which also does not recognize the Rohingya as citizens, says thousands of Rohingya refugees have sought to flee there by boat. Its policy, however, is to refuse them entry.

Rights groups say Myanmar's failure to address the root causes of the crisis means the situation may worsen.

Over the weekend, Border Affairs Minister Lt. General Thein Htay traveled to the affected areas with the U.N. resident and humanitarian coordinator in Myanmar, Ashok Nigam.

Nigam said 22,587 were displaced and they included both Muslims and ethnic Rakhine Buddhists, but he gave no breakdown.

Speaking to The Associated Press on Sunday while visiting Thechaung camp, Nigam said getting aid to the new wave of displaced people will be a challenge as some fled on boats and others have sought refuge on isolated hilltops.

"The situation is certainly very grave and we are working with the government to provide urgent aid to these people," he said.

Some 4,600 homes were also destroyed, according to the U.N, which said it had begun distributing emergency food and shelter supplies to refugees.

The latest unrest pushes the total displaced to nearly 100,000 since the clashes in June, when at least 90 people died and 3,000 homes were destroyed. About 75,000 people, mostly Rohingya, have lived in refugee camps since then.

"It is critically important that the government ensures that the rule of law prevails, prevents any further spreading of this violence and continues to communicate strong messages of harmony," Nigam said in a statement later Sunday.

"The violence, fear and mistrust are contrary to the democratic transition and economic and social development that Myanmar is committed to," Nigam said. "It should not become an impediment to progress."

Since the roleplay will be starting soon, I just thought that I`d add this. You can ask make suggestions and discuss the plot here. If you want to make a suggestion though, please make it reasonable. Don't say anything like `Oh, they should all die from an apocalypse.`, even though I doubt any of you will do such a thing.

You can also ask questions here.

Every now and then, once we've all come up with some possible plot ideas, I`ll post the best one up here, for people's opinions and such. For now though, until then, we can just talk about the beginning of the roleplay, and people can bring up suggestions and ideas if they have any.

?I have some very good news to report about the long-awaited reduction in force and offshoring of the documentation group.? The development manager?s voice came from a half-dozen speakers in the cubicles of the technical communication team. ?It?s not going to happen.?

The whoosh of six simultaneously released bated breaths drowned out his next words. We?d been expecting the worst, and had spent more time during the last month helping each other polish our r?sum?s than actually documenting the software. Nobody had noticed, lending an uncomfortable amount of credibility to the rumors. Of course, Cook hadn?t bothered to come down to give us the message in person, so the announcement didn?t mark anything like a sea change in corporate morale-boosting.

?Check your e-mail tomorrow for details of the new plan,? he said, followed by the click of his speakerphone disconnecting. Immediately, the prairie-dogging began, heads popping up over the tops of the cubicles.

?What happened to him?? Lakshmi wondered aloud, swaying dangerously on her knockoff Aero chair.

?Must?ve gotten religion.? The voice was muffled, the speaker not having joined the rest of us in craning our necks. Coming from Shiv, our resident atheist, that was funny. I smirked.

?I wouldn?t breathe easily just yet,? I observed. ?Let?s wait to see the e-mail.?

?How bad could it be?? Lakshmi?s brows knitted; you couldn?t see the lower half of her face, even standing on her chair, but her eyes were frowning.

?Remember when he decided we?d save money if the developers wrote the documentation and we just edited and formatted it?? I reminded her.

?Touch?.? Sanjay?s family originated about as far from France as it was possible to be without actually crossing a major ocean, but he lost no opportunity to add an ?ay? to anything adjectival.

?Don?t you people have any documentation you should be writing?? Shiv chimed in. We didn?t formally have a group manager, the self-directed team fad having hit India years after it had been abandoned in the West, so he?d taken it upon himself to play that role. Heads disappeared below the tops of the cubicles. Nobody wanted to screw things up now that we had a good reason to pull hard for the company.

***

It took some time for Lakshmi?s how bad it could be to manifest. The next day, there was no e-mail, but Shiv was missing. This was unusual, since he had a near-perfect performance record. To the best of my knowledge, he had missed only that one day when the corporate clambake and team-building exercise went badly wrong. The ironically named Cook had harvested the clams himself, and he?d insisted they tasted just fine. He even ate them himself. Me, I?d stuck with the tofu tubesteak, claiming religious objections but really objecting to eating anything that had spent it?s life filtering shit from the unhygienic coastal waters. Cook never dared challenge anything we said about Hinduism for risk of offending, and couldn?t be bothered do the work necessary to learn when we were yanking his chain. We therefore ruthlessly exploited his traditional American hypersensitivity about anything to do with a foreign religion whenever the opportunity presented itself.

In the event, I was the only one of our group who?d missed the resulting bout of dysentery, which led to an unscheduled toilet team-building exercise. Potty jokes not withstanding, it said much about Cook?s own bathroom habits that what felled all of the documentation team (but for your humble narrator) and 90-odd percent of the developers, he seemed to take as par for his course. For three days, I wrote like a man possessed, doing the work of three and falling behind steadily until the others returned. I woke several times to a bad case of keyboard face, and my hands trembled from the caffeine overdose for days afterwards.

But we met the ship deadline. Possibly only because the developers were hit even harder than we were, proportionally speaking, but meet it we did.
zombie success storyShiv was back the following day, but he looked worse than the day after the clambake. His pallor was more noticeable than usual, he barely looked up when the chai wallah came by, and the prominent veins on his forehead were scarcely evident. His eyes were dull, there was a white crust around his lips, and he responded to questions in incomprehensible monosyllables. One of the freebie donuts the company sometimes provided lay half-eaten on his desk. I shrugged, and returned to work. He?d either get better or he?d call in sick the next day. Either way, there?d be extra work for me.

A few hours later, Lakshmi stuck her head into my cubicle. ?Hey? you?ve got to come see this.?

I got out of my chair, having hit a brick wall. Some things are just so stupidly implemented, you can?t save them with documentation, though that doesn?t stop you from trying. It?s why they pay you the big (by Bengaluru standards) bucks. I followed her down the narrow aisle to Shiv?s cubicle. I heard the frantic clicking long before we rounded the corner and peered in. Shiv sat slumped in his chair, but his fingers were flailing away at the keyboard as if he?d been possessed by the ghost of Abhishek Jain. A string of drool trailed from his mouth and pooled on the floor, and the armpits of his shirt were soaked.

?Shiv, you doing alright?? I nudged him, without so much as a blink in response.

?Here?s the fun part.? Lakshmi grabbed his left wrist in her tiny hand, bent his arm at the elbow, and put the palm on his bald spot. Both hands kept typing as if nothing had happened. ?Weird, huh??

?That?s more than weird. It?s scary.?

?In an amusing way.?

?You have a much crueler sense of humor than I do.?

?Men are the weaker sex. Admit it.?

I ignored her, having long ago tired of that particular argument. ?I think we should call someone.?

?Like Cook??

?Yeah, like that will solve anything. At best, we?d get Shiv sacked for abusing recreational drugs on the job.?

?Probably. Maybe we should call the nurse??

A familiar throat-clearing made us both jump. ?There?s no need for that.? Cook was tall and thin, nearly skeletal really, and moved with uncanny silence. The way his forehead jutted out over his eyes exacerbated the cadaverous look and made it hard to meet his eyes. ?It?s all part of the plan to avoid offshoring your group.?

Lakshmi and I exchanged alarmed glances.

?He?ll be just fine, as long as you put his hand back on the keyboard.?

Lakshmi reluctantly complied, wiping her hand on her jeans afterwards.

?Don?t you two have some writing to do??

?Yessir,? we both chimed.

As we returned to our cubicles, the sound of typing redoubled.

***

A few hours later, Anjali entered my office, Lakshmi in tow. She tossed her iPad onto a stack of paper on my desk. ?Look at this!?

I picked up the tablet, and had a look. Page after page of documentation, all new. ?So??

?It?s not perfect, but if it were all like this, I?d be out of a job.?

?So clearly it?s not my writing.?

?Clearly.? The corner of her mouth quirked upwards. ?And not Lakshmi?s either.?

I knew where this was going. ?Shiv??

?Got it in one,? Lakshmi nodded.

?You?ve got to see this,? Anjali nodded her head back over her shoulder in the direction of Shiv?s cube. We trooped off together, and there he was again, fingers still flailing away at the keyboard. The puddle of drool on the floor had expanded, and the sour smell coming from under his desk told me he hadn?t been to the toilet recently.

?Distasteful.?

zombie success story? You don?t know the half of it. My cubicle is right next door.? She waved her iPad in front of Shiv?s eyes, and the typing didn?t even waver. ?And it gets worse.? She grabbed my shoulder and steered me down the hall to Deepak?s cubicle. The same frenetic clickety-clack emerged, and when I poked my head in, there was Deepak, and he smelled about as bad as Shiv. That was something, since he ordinarily soaked himself in cologne. The front of his Lauren-knockoff shirt was soggy with drool; the sides and back were soggy with sweat.

?Brainnnnns,? moaned Lakshmi.

?Yeah, really. If it weren?t for the lack of rot, I?d be buckling on a helmet.?

?You?ve got nothing to worry about.?

?Not as long as you?re here, clearly.?

?Guys?? Anjali put a hand on each of us. ?I don?t think we have to worry about them tearing the flesh from our bones. This isn?t the Romero zombie shtick.?

?So what is it?Luke Kenny?? I ignored Lakshmi, who?d distorted her face into a lopsided grimace and was reaching a clawed hand for my head.

I slapped her hand away. ?Stop it!?

Unperturbed, Anjali continued. ?I?m thinking it?s Haitian.?

?Haitian?? we both replied.

?Jinx!? I got out, a microsecond ahead of Lakshmi, and she shut her mouth, glaring at me.

?Yeah. You know the voodoo thing??

?I thought that was a myth??

?It?s not clear. Wade Davis did some fascinating ethnobotany work back in the 80s, but his methodology was shaky, and it was never clear whether he?d been analyzing real zombie powder or the fake stuff.?

Lakshmi was growing apoplectic, so I took mercy on her. ?Unjinx.?

Her glare dimmed slightly. ?There?s a difference between the real fake zombie powder and the fake fake zombie powder??

?What do I know? I?m an editor, not a doctor, as mama-ji never stops reminding me.? She licked her lips. ?The point is, I?m not sanguine about this. If it were just Shiv, it could be a coincidence. But??

?? two points make a line,? I finished. She nodded.

?So what do we do about it??

?Well, first thing is we stay away from the jelly donuts.? She pointed at some traces of white powder on Deepak?s desk. I bent over, and sure enough, the ruins of a jelly donut were visible under the desk.

?Um??

Anjali and I both looked at our colleague. ?Lakshmi, you didn?t!?

?Hey, they cut off the donut supply after the last quarterly review. I figured that with revenues looking up again??

?We?d better get you to a doctor.? I licked my lips nervously, glad I?d held out for the chocolate glaze.

?And tell her what? That our boss is turning us into zombies? That would be well received.?

?It would if your doctor?s an empiricist. Tell her to keep an eye on you overnight and watch what happens.?

?I don?t feel very well.? Lakshmi?s forehead was glistening under the fluorescent lighting.

?We?d really better get you to a doctor. I?ll take her.?

I nodded my gratitude. ?Meanwhile, I?ll do some research. Can I have your iPad?? Anjali handed it to me. Our computers were spywared to Redmond and back, and the network was firewalled worse than the People?s Republic of China, but there was a dental office two floors down that ran an open wi-fi hotspot for their patients, and the signal was strong enough to reach our floor. Anjali handed me the tablet, and took Lakshmi by the arm, stooping slightly to reach the shorter woman.

?Good luck!?

?Don?t eat the donuts,? she shot back over her shoulder.

?

What kind of idea did you have in mind for the abilities they wake up and have?

Well, i meant to add this, but it is mostly random, though it may be slightly influenced by who they are with, what they are doing or thinking, what they are skilled at, and ect, but mostly random......mostly.

And understand, the more powerful it is, the worse any side affects should be. I will accept powerful abilities, but there better be either a nasty side affect, or really hard to control/use/maintain.
