This ain?t your grandmother?s charity ride. Most people are accustomed to riding through the streets of any large city at a leisurely pace, raising money by cycling a route most anyone can take part in without too much effort. This is not that. Brothers and endurance enthusiasts, Scott and Rhys Jenkins, have brought in (suckered?) two other self-described ?amateur cyclists? to ride a massive 1,100 miles in order to raise money for a couple cancer charities. Here?s the thing, these 1,100 miles will be ridden in about 10 days, amounting to a century or so every day. That?s not it either. The ride will also crest 4 of the toughest climbs in the Tour De France on their way from Turin, Italy to Tiger Bay in Wales.
None of the riders are dedicated cyclists, not now anyways, and 2 of them are almost laughably amateurish, one rider maxing out at only 50 miles ever. This is no frat-boy dare though as the riders are dedicated and currently training to tackle the distance. Follow their blog for updates on training and preparations.
The Facebook page is here and their Twitter handle is @1000TT. You can donate to the charities here.
