PITTSFIELD -- Two people were stabbed Thursday night on the porch of a Second Street home during what police are calling a "drug related" crime.
According to Pittsfield Police Detective Capt. Patrick F. Barry, several people went to a residence located at the corner of Lincoln and Second streets about 11 p.m. Thursday and confronted a 39-year-old man allegedly concerning a drug debt. The man was stabbed twice in the back and once in the hand, police said.
A 40-year-old friend of the victim who attempted to intervene was stabbed in the hand.
The 39-year-old man was taken to Berkshire Medical Center where he was treated for his wounds. It was unknown as of press time whether the man remains at the hospital. The 40-year-old was treated at the scene.
Barry said members of the Pittsfield Police Drug Unit pulled a suspect vehicle over in the area of Wendell Avenue Extension and East Street. One of the men inside, Thomas P. Hernandez, 25, of Parkside Avenue, was arrested on an outstanding warrant.
Inside the vehicle, police allegedly found a knife that was taken as evidence. Another of the passengers in the car was wearing a bloody shirt, which was confiscated by police, said Barry.
According to the captain, the men are considered suspects in the stabbing, but the investigation is ongoing and no arrests connected to the crime have been made yet.
Police also located a second knife near the residence, said Barry.
