COLLEGE NOTES: Bethel's Dos Santos continues his hot streak at UNH

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. -- Former Bethel High star Gui Dos Santos scored a goal for the third straight match to lead the University of New Haven men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory on Tuesday at the New York Institute of Technology -- the defending East Coast Conference Champion. The Chargers (2-1-0) have posted back-to-back shutouts for the first time since 2007. Dos Santos improved his team-best point total to seven through three matches, netting the first goal of the contest that stood up as the game-winner. Dos Santos, a junior forward, has now finished 10 goals in his Charger career. He had a goal and an assist in a 3-0 triumph over Holy Family on Sunday.

FAIRFIELD -- The Sacred Heart University women's soccer team defeated Manhattan 2-1 on Sunday afternoon to even its record at 2-2-0. Jackie DeLucia of Bethel assisted on Talia Schwartz's goal nine minutes into the game to put the Pioneers up 1-0. Sacred Heart is back in action on Sept. 14 at Cornell.

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. -- The Franklin Pierce University volleyball team reached the championship match of the Marauder Clash at Millersville University on Saturday before bowing to Quincy University, 3-0, an capturing runner-up honors. The Ravens went 3-0 in pool play Friday and defeated St. Augustine's 3-1 in the semifinals on Saturday. In the win over St. Augustines, former Bethel High star Madison Duffy, a freshman outside hitter, had six kills.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Twins Mike and Dan Sheldon, former Ridgefield High standouts, helped lead the Ithaca College football team to a season-opening victory over Moravian College on Saturday, 24-0. Dan Sheldon was named his team's Outstanding Lineman of the Game for his play at nose tackle. He recorded a sack for a loss of three yards. The Bombers have won 15 straight season openers. They will host Union on Sept. 15.
